Message from Student Council 2023

A Message from Duclos School Council

Welcome Duclos Bulldog Families to our new school year! We hope that everyone had a fun filled summer and are ready to come back refreshed and excited for the 2023-24 school year. We want to send out a special welcome to any new families joining our Pack. We hope you are feeling at home and being a part of our wonderful school community.

Our School Council is composed of mostly parents of Duclos students, our principal, a teacher rep, and can include members with an invested interest in the school. We represent the parent voice in the school community, to advise the principal and school board in matters relating to the school, to support and enhance student learning. Our meetings are a place where you are able to listen, and actively contribute to the success of the school community by providing knowledge, perspective and ideas. We welcome new faces and encourage parent participation. What a great way to advocate for your child and be involved in discussions that make our school a great place to be.

My name is Sarah Severn and I am the current Chair of the Duclos School Council and President of the Duclos H.E Bourgoin Support Group Foundation. I have 3 kids in the Northern Lights School Division, in grades 6, 3 and 1. I have nothing but great respect for the staff at these schools who show an amazing level of commitment to our children’s wellbeing, their education and even manage to sprinkle some fun into it all. I truly believe our engagement as parents in our child's education sets them up for success, and makes our school an amazing place to be. In my years being involved with the council, I have found it to be a place to keep me informed, make connections to other parents, and a place where I can make a difference for the kids, not just my own.

We also have a Fundraising Foundation that works hard to provide support financially to both Duclos & H.E Bourgoin Schools. We raise funds to support things like: sensory kits, indoor recess activities, gym & outdoor activity equipment, and bringing in things like Trickster Theater and the Alberta Musical Theater Company. Transportation costs for field trips and ski trips are also things we fundraise to support.

There is always an open invitation to join our meetings. I know life is busy and we can’t always make big commitments. Small contributions matter too, maybe one event you’re able to volunteer, maybe one meeting you can attend (or attend virtually), or maybe you have an idea to send in via email. Every bit of investment into our kids matters. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email me at duclos.schoolcouncil@gmail.com.

I look forward to a successful year! Do Only Good Bulldogs!

Sarah Severn

Our next meeting will be on September 26 at 6:30. Please join us at Duclos in the staff room.
