May- Mental Health Month!

Hi Wonderful Parents and Students,
As we spring into May, let's take a moment to reflect upon last month's virtue: Gratitude and Positivity! In April, students learned the importance of thankfulness and showing gratitude to others. Through actions such as thanking each other, appreciating one another's insights, and spreading kindness throughout Duclos School, students showed the power of positivity!
This May is Mental Health Month and we are focusing on the importance of mental wellbeing. At Duclos School, we will be celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week from May 5-9th.
Our students will also be enjoying a pancake breakfast this week to celebrate Mental Health Awareness!
Mindfulness Monday - 2C will lead us in mindful moments to help calm our bodies and brains!
Twin Tuesday - Team up against stress! Dress like a friend because you are not alone!
Wear a Hat Wednesday - Hats on for Mental Health! Wear your favourite hat to spread awareness of Mental Health!
Chalk the Walk Thursday - Colors can represent a wide range of emotions. It is okay to express them!
Duclos Fam Friday - Wear your spirit gear to show your support for our Duclos family!
Monday, May 5, 2025: Meet Ruger the Wellness Dog!
We are very excited to welcome Ruger, a certified Wellness Dog, on Monday May 5th, to be part of our Mental Health Week activities. Ruger has been certified by CAAWLS (Chimo Animal Assisted Wellness and Learning Society) in Edmonton. In the past, he and his owner, Mrs. Carroll, have worked at Iron River School, The Hive and Duclos School with great results!
Schools have seen students gain confidence and feel less anxious when there is a wellness dog around. He can help with stress relief, provide confidence to students when reading and help with social emotional and self-regulation groups. Just petting a dog may put a smile on their face!
If your child has an allergy to or fear of dogs, please call his/her homeroom teacher to discuss. If you have further questions about wellness dogs, please contact Mrs. Carroll directly at ashley.carroll@nlsd.ab.ca or 780-826-3992
