Staggered Recess

Hello Duclos Families,

We'd like to share an update with you regarding recess this year. Things look a little bit different due to COVID-19. In our efforts to exercise an abundance of caution we have had to adjust our recess routine. We have cohorted our kids according to grade. Grades 1 and 3 go out and play together but each grade is assigned a play area to stay in. The same is done for grades 4, 2, and K. We will rotate play areas throughout the year so kids can play in different areas. In order to accommodate schedules we have changed the first recess to a health and wellness focus. There are a number of things that can be done during that time to give kids a break. Some examples of what this break looks like include: A teacher taking their class out to the playground to play, taking a nutrition break, and providing movement breaks in the classroom. This gives teachers the flexibility to respond to their students needs in a timely manner instead of being locked in to a break at a certain time. This is working well at this time. We have a scheduled noon hour recess and late afternoon recess. Please call the school admin if you have any further questions and we'll be happy to answer them.
